There’s a new clothing brand on the rise that has popular faces of the fashion world turning their heads…in a good way. Fashion game changers have already gotten their hands on pieces from this brands collections that seek to bring back memorable past times into their design of clothing.
Rarely do we see a clothing brand that encompasses elements of a previous era and do it well. The ability to incorporate a variety of genres, artists, and attitudes into clothing is a talent that is recognized by many. For The Essence, designer and founder Jonathan Goldberg, revisits periods in the 90’s that spoke to him and recreates those moments into clothing that is coveted throughout the world.
The Essence made its debut in 2013 with their first piece entitled the Shaolin Chessboxin Varsity Jacket and from there have shown no signs of stopping. Both celebrities and athletes alike have all shown interest in the clothing brand because of its unique style. With New York Giants wide receiver, Victor Cruz and rappers such Nas, Method Man and Dave East, all rocking pieces from The Essence, the brand has already managed to make a stake in the industry securing its place as a name to watch.
What makes them unique is their ability to customize pieces that tell a story. Jon notes that in each piece he creates there is a message within it and if a person can unveil that message they are able to truly understand the brand.
His inspiration is drawn from his own high school years particularly being 93-97 with the emergence of hip-hop. Influences such as Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Mobb Deep, and Wu Tang Clan have each made dominant appearances in some of Jon’s pieces. This includes the “Mass Appeal” varsity jacket customized and designed for Nas and his label, "Mass Appeal".
The Essence possesses pieces that are handmade in the United States and can be one of a kind. An added luxury to the brand is their willingness to customize pieces specifically for their clients. Each piece of material used to bring a design to life is of the best quality and are intended to exceed a clients expectations when it comes to the overall appeal.
With new releases on the way and set to debut in August there is much to look forward to from The Essence. Fans can expect this new collection to be very different from what they are used to seeing Jon and his team put out. The upcoming collection is said to be much riskier than previous ones, but still contain staple pieces that many trendsetters have come to love.
Jon’s work is not limited to the United States, as it has been noticed throughout the world by clients in London, and Japan to name a few.
There is much to see and expect from an upcoming brand such as The Essence as Jon is looking forward to expanding their reach in the near future.
