Originally an American trademark, some can argue that Japan now holds the “denim capital”.
Kojima, a seaside district of Kurashiki, Okayama province is home to some of the finest crafted jeans. What makes them unique? Hiroki Kushimoto, longtime designer and founder of Japan Blue Jeans, says, “We spend most of our time developing and creating material, because that’s the essential element to quality denim. “
The process changes each season in order to create unique beauty in their jeans that is representative of Kojima’s culture.
The creation processes include special wash and dye treatments, to get unique coloring and texture, and also particular cut and sew methods.
Kushimoto tells Hypebeast in an interview that he believes Japan set their denim apart because of the creation process. “Europe and China specialize in producing at a large scale, so that’s how I believe Japan differentiated itself with its products that could only be produced with factories at home rather than abroad.”
Japan Blue is dedicated to creating the finest jeans out of the best materials.
